The REI Co-op Trailmade 60 backpack is a dependable, no-nonsense pack designed for hikers and backpackers who want reliable performance without an intimidating price tag. Built as an entry point into multi-day backpacking, it offers 60 liters of capacity, making it well-suited for weekend trips or longer excursions when paired with careful packing. The pack features an adjustable torso length, allowing users to fine-tune the fit for a range of body sizes, which is especially valuable for those still learning what suits their frame best. Its construction uses durable, abrasion-resistant fabric that can handle the bumps and scrapes of trail use, rock scrambles, and being tossed into the back of a car or set down on rocky ground. Comfort on the trail is a central focus of the Trailmade 60’s design. The suspension system includes a supportive hip belt that transfers weight off the shoulders and onto the hips, reducing fatigue during long days on the trail. Padded, breathable shoulder straps and a ventilated back panel help manage moisture and heat buildup, keeping the wearer more comfortable even during strenuous climbs or warm-weather hikes. The pack also includes multiple external attachment points and compression straps, letting users secure trekking poles, sleeping pads, or extra layers to the outside of the bag, which is particularly useful when internal space runs tight or when quick access to gear is needed without unpacking the entire load. Organization and accessibility are also thoughtfully addressed in the Trailmade 60’s layout. It includes a top lid pocket for stashing small essentials like maps, snacks, or a headlamp, along with side pockets designed to hold water bottles within easy reach without requiring the pack to be removed. A sleeping bag compartment at the bottom of the pack helps separate bulkier gear from the main storage area, streamlining the packing process for overnight or multi-night trips. Overall, the REI Co-op Trailmade 60 stands out as a practical, budget-conscious choice for hikers stepping into backpacking, delivering the durability, comfort, and functional storage needed to support extended time on the trail.
Customer reviews
I've used this pack for three weekend backpacking trips now and it's held up great. The adjustable torso was easy to dial in and the hip belt pockets are perfect for snacks and my phone.
Solid pack for the price. It's not the lightest thing out there, but the ventilation on the back panel really does make a difference on hot days. Wish the lid detached for a summit pack option.
Bought this for my first multi-day trip in the Rockies. The sleeping bag compartment was clutch and the compression straps kept everything tight. A few stitching threads came loose after heavy use though.
Didn't expect much given the price, but this pack has performed better than my friend's $300 pack on our trips. The hydration sleeve fits my 3L reservoir perfectly and access is easy on the trail.
